Duration and contents of the examination
The board exam comprises:
1. Theoretical-written examination, consisting of 2 partial examinations, each lasting 90 minutes
2. Practical-oral examination, consisting of 3 partial examinations, each lasting a maximum of 45 minutes

Admission requirements
Only doctors with a Swiss Federal diploma or a diploma recognised by the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) are admitted to the board exam (Article 23 of the Postgraduate Training Regulation. The transitional provisions are set out in Article 69, Paragraph 3 of the Postgraduate Training Regulation (WBO)).
We recommend taking the board exam towards the end of the subject-specific specialist postgraduate training, i.e. after at least 3 years of postgraduate training in radiation oncology.
Examination language
The written theory examination takes the form of a multiple choice test in English.
The oral practical examination is carried out at the request of the candidate in German or French. Oral examinations in Italian are permitted, if the candidate requests this and an Italian-speaking examiner is available.
Examination fee
The medical speciality society charges a fee of CHF 1,000
The examination fee must be remitted in advance by 31st July 2026 at the latest.
If the candidate withdraws from the examination, the fee will only be refunded if the candidate withdraws up to 4 weeks before the date of the examination.
